A short passage with a word missing. Choose the word that fits the gap best, with a reason every time.
Cloze passages are texts with words removed. They appear in most GL 11+ English papers because they test several skills at once: reading carefully, understanding context, and knowing what words actually mean.
Every option usually fits grammatically: the skill is choosing the word that fits the meaning best. Encourage your child to read the whole passage first, try their chosen word back in the gap, and listen to whether it sounds right.
